Rawlings, WY - Western Hills CG

One year while traveling cross country with our long time traveling companions we decided to stop and explore the Seminoe State Park near Rawlins, WY. We stopped for a week - almost too long - and stayed at the Western Hills Campground which had everything except scenery. My friend has a 4X4 Chevy so we used it for our trips out into the huge SP. Our main objective was to find wild horses. It took a lot of riding around but we did find some. We also searched for Mule Deer but never found any. One day while getting some cash from the local bank ATM we found Mule Deer right beside the bank parking lot.

Because the water level was so low in all the park reservoirs no one was using the park so we had it all to ourselves.

We did a little bit of exploring around Rawlings but there isn’t much there. We did find an old train and looked it all over. Then on a back street we found an old home with a sign above the front entrance. So we thought it was open to the public. After parking the truck and getting a little closer we found it to be a private dwelling. We were disappointed because we had expectations of finding some of the old west inside.
