Troy, AL - Deer Run RV Park

When it gets a little too warm for us in Florida we head north. We like to stick to the low country so we have traveled up through Alabama a lot. We might get off I-10 and go up US-231. Just past Troy we found our favorite RV Park on that highway. It’s evolved a lot since we first stopped there with better entrance roads and services. But the friendly, quiet atmosphere has remained constant. Normally we just spend a night or two there. It’s very easy to do with the nice long level sites and complete FHU services.

Here are a few pictures. I’m going to add some from Fort Rucker too as we have visited the Army aviation museum located on that base.

Fort Rucker is rich in Army Aviation heritage and the Aviation Museum is well worth a visit.

Camp Verde, AZ - Rancho Verde RV Park

A few years ago on our last trip west for the winter we experienced some awful weather at Yuma, AZ. The wind blew almost continuously all the time we were there. We thought we might have to shovel out the dust and sand from inside our trailer to get it light enough to travel. We were camping and traveling with our long time friends and we all decided enough was enough and left right along with the first “Snowbird” departures.

When the winter months start to turn into spring in Arizona the northern “Snowbirds” get antsy and start north leaving a lot of really nice RV Parks nearly empty. So we decided to call a few places up in higher ground where we could spend a couple of weeks.

We had done our home work well. The Rancho Verde RV Park was an outstanding base camp for our numerous side trips in the area. There is so much to do there we extended our time there to a month. The RV park is way off the major highways and roads and has a quiet family atmosphere. The owners/managers were gracious hosts at all times and we enjoyed a nice military discount from them for our month long stay.

The area is about 3200 feet above sea level and did not give us any problems.

Below are some pictures of the park. Our friends are in the Montana with the blue Chevy truck.

Trivia: Worlds largest Kokopelli is there.

We took so many side trips during this stop it’s hard to remember them all. But, here is one of the highlighted ones with pictures. Our train ride was on a beautiful clear day, very enjoyable & relaxing.

Crossville, TN - Beanpot Campground

We have traveled all of the interstate highway corridors across the USA. Done a lot of US highways and rural roads too. Found the Beanpot CG a number of years ago looking for a nice quiet place to spend a week or two. Its just off I-40 just west of Knoxville, TN. Check-out their web site provided below. On our last stop there we just spent the night. Still a very friendly place to stay with lots to do in the surrounding area. They have a discount system that will allow just about all travelers to take advantage of something for a discount. The best one for us is the military one.

Their CG store is well stocked with all the needed items. Propane is easy to get for all types of rigs.

Its quiet, laid-back, easy to get to and park your rig of any size. Stay a day, week or month.

Frog Level RV Park - Philadelphia, MS

Early in our full time traveling years during our first trip north out of western Florida we found Philadelphia, MS. We were just meandering up through AL & MS using rural roads and hunting for a place to spend the night. We were using the catalog sized RV park finders at the time and found the Frog Level RV Park listing and a side bar advertising the Silver Star & Golden Moon casinos. We had no idea there were any that far from the water in MS because we were heading for our first stop in the Tunica area.

The Frog Level location was and still is conveniently located and the casinos will send transportation there to pick-up customers. On this first stop many of the roads were under heavy construction and the golf course wasn’t finished. The walk-over and people mover between casinos was finished and provides great access to both casinos. The only day I had a camera was on our departure day and it was raining but I got one of the construction.

Not long after our first stop there we had some long time friends from our Navy days move there to work in the casinos. We have made numerous stops there and still use the Frog Level for parking. There have been ups and downs with management changes but currently its on the up swing. We use one of the largest sites at about 60’. With careful placement we can stay connected to the trailer and still be level.

The AA Royal Motel & Campground - North Tonawanda, NY

Location was our guide when selecting an RV Park on Niagara Falls Blvd. It also was a pick-up point for the tours we wanted to take to the Falls and other points of interest. The pictures below show that the sites are all completely paved and all have FHU services. The park is small but in great condition and easy to park in. Very level sites. The Owner/Manager lives on site and always has someone available for your service. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and all the attractions. Here is their web site. It will answer most of your questions.

London, KY - Westgate RV Camping

One time while heading north up I-75 to escape the hot southern summer we decided to stop for a few days in London, KY. Our main objective was to tour the large water reservoirs in the area and to visit the Cumberland Falls.

We had outstanding weather during our short visit allowing us to spend an extra day for shopping in the malls.

Our RV Park choice was the Westgate RV Camping and it’s run by a motel which allows you to have the continental breakfast and use the pool among other things. The web sites provided below explain the RV park amenities and the Cumberland falls area. We were parked between two large bushes on an end site. Right out our back window was a MacDonald’s and up on top of the hill sit’s a Cracker Barrel restaurant, so we didn‘t have to travel very far for food. The tour of the falls and local area was very enjoyable and we roamed around the area for four days.

This was during our full timing years and we never stayed put very long.

Rawlings, WY - Western Hills CG

One year while traveling cross country with our long time traveling companions we decided to stop and explore the Seminoe State Park near Rawlins, WY. We stopped for a week - almost too long - and stayed at the Western Hills Campground which had everything except scenery. My friend has a 4X4 Chevy so we used it for our trips out into the huge SP. Our main objective was to find wild horses. It took a lot of riding around but we did find some. We also searched for Mule Deer but never found any. One day while getting some cash from the local bank ATM we found Mule Deer right beside the bank parking lot.

http://westernhillscampground.com/

Because the water level was so low in all the park reservoirs no one was using the park so we had it all to ourselves.

We did a little bit of exploring around Rawlings but there isn’t much there. We did find an old train and looked it all over. Then on a back street we found an old home with a sign above the front entrance. So we thought it was open to the public. After parking the truck and getting a little closer we found it to be a private dwelling. We were disappointed because we had expectations of finding some of the old west inside.
