Yermo, CA - KOA

Because there are so many military RV Parks/Campgrounds in California we seldom stop at civilian campgrounds in that state. Here is an exception. While traveling with our friends west out of NV on I-15 I was in the lead trailer and behind an 18 wheeler. When the 18 wheeler made a sharp move from the RH to LH lane I followed him but was a little too late and hit the very large tire tread he was trying to avoid. I barely missed it with the truck tires but it went under the RH side of our trailer and hit both RH tires. The front one blew immediately and the rear one was almost flat by the time I got stopped in the emergency lane.

After replacing the destroyed tires with my spare and my friends spare, neither one of us had a spare , so new tires were needed right away. Baker, CA was not far down the road so we drove on to CA. No trailer tires there but the garage manager called ahead to Barstow, CA and found a place that had them. We decided to drive on because there was a KOA near there in Yermo, CA.

Now this KOA has a crazy layout. They built it around the existing trees/shrubs and you have to actually zigzag into many of the sites. Other than that we found it a great place to stay in the desert. It was spring and the weather was dry and smog free. The kids working there were super helpful with all inquirers/requests. The camp store was well stocked and the prices were very reasonable. We were impressed with the whole operation. We spent two nights there and enjoyed every minute of it. Got some replacement tires - also at a very reasonable price - and got the spares squared away.
Here are a few pictures of the parking sites at the KOA. Click on any one to make it larger.
