This blog is going to be a review of all the places we have parked our RV trailer since we started traveling in our RV. It’s exclusively about civilian RV parks and campgrounds. Because I’m retired from the US Navy we are eligible to use the many military RV parks and campgrounds around the country. The picture above was taken at a military RV park aboard Laughlin AFB near Del Rio, TX. Huge FHU sites with CATV and privacy fences on both sides.

American Legion Post #137 - Jacksonville, FL
Post #137 has a large chunk of property right on the Cedar River. They have the main building that houses their offices and the main club. Adjacent to that building is an Olympic sized pool and outside bar area. There is ample parking for normal club operations with more out in back of the club through the gate where the RV parking is located. There are 8 RV parking sites. Six are FHU with 30 amps and the other two are water and electric only. Those two are right on the water next to the boat mooring area. There is also a large paved deep water boat launching ramp. It is very private and secluded. We have made it our normal parking area when in the Jacksonville area, which is often, because we have kids and grandkids there and loads of friends.
The picture below was taken during our first stay at post #137. There was another Everest there in site #3.
Just click on the pictures to make them larger.
Our favorite site, #6, with unobstructed views of the river from all of the windows on the right side of our trailer.
This was taken during our most recient visit - July/Aug 2011.
The large metal object under the flag pole is an official USA flag burning site. Periodically old and worn out flags collected from the military and other organizations in Duval county are burned there. An official ceremony is held before every burning.
The boat launching ramp.
Boat docking and mooring area. This is looking down river where the Cedar River empties into the Ortega River very close to the St. Johns River.
I got myself a little Walker Bay Dinghy. Then I figured out I had to mount the trolling motor on the bow. Once I got it all rigged and registered I tried it out. Works fine and I enjoy fishing from it.

Dixieland Music & RV Park, Waldo, Florida
During one of his stays at the VA hospital in Gainesville we found the Dixieland Music & RV park in Waldo, which is the closest RV park to the hospital just an easy 18 miles away.
This park is under new ownership and will improve in a hurry. After talking with the owner we were assigned to a site under development. It was a pull thru, FHU and already had 50 amp electrical service. The best part was he let us have it for $100.00 a week, everything included and there were four of us. My wife’s sister and her husband followed us to FL and drove our little runaround car down. It would help a little with all the fuel we were going to use riding around.
All pictures can be enlarged just by clicking on them.

The RV Park owner maintains this trailer in the park and often stays there when park improvements are being made.
There are two entrance roads into the park. This is on the left. The office is on the other one.
The park lake/pond is deep and well stocked. Parking can be parallel, back-in or drive-in.
This was our site. In the first picture you can see the trucker parking are behind the service station. In the second picture you can see US-301 in the background.
