Trenton, ME - Timberland Acres RV Park

There are a number of campground options when parking near the attractions near Bar Harbor, Maine. The one we used last time there was the Timberland Acres RV Park. Like almost all of the CGs up in that part of the country it’s very family oriented with amenities to fit family needs.

Out in the back section where we parked, the pull thrus are huge, level and roomy. We got a very generous military discount making it just that much more desirable for us. It was our home base for two weeks. Not mentioned in the CG web page is the fact that the Walmart is less than a mile away and free parking for the free shuttles to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park are just a short distance down the road. Also on the same road is the - must go to - Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound.

For the first day of our stay we had most of the back section to ourselves. Then they started showing up. Hitchhikers, we were surrounded by them. Over the next few days more than 40 of them showed up. They even had a Hitchhiker rep traveling with them. They were all part of a large Hitchhiker club from Texas and were staging up for a caravan tour of New Brunswick & Nova Scotia.

Here are some of the pictures we took. Clicking on any one of them will start the slide show.

Harmony, PA - Indian Brave Campground

The only good thing I have to say about this Indian Brave CG is everything works and the reception on the 86 channels of CATV was excellent. Other than that the interior roads were all rutted. It’s clean but old and worn out and being kept together with elbow grease. It’s very dark at night because the lighting is inadequate. Coming in from the south it’s very hard to get to because of the narrow streets and sharp turns. Because of so many seasonal sites we felt like intruders when using the facilities. The residents were just not very friendly.

Here are some pictures. Most of the sites are occupied by long term homesteaders. Very close back to back parking.

Exhibition Coal Mine Campground - Beckley, WV

When traveling we seldom set dates to be somewhere. It allows us to travel at whatever pace suits us and to stay as long as desired at each stop. We also like to just meander along, not hunting for places to stay until the traveling day is starting to wind down.

Heading north on US-19 is the little City of Beckley, WV. There you will find the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground. It’s run by the city and the Company Store is where you will find the place to check-in and get the key to your site. They have a web site that gives directions. The roads are narrow with some sharp turns but we got there without any problems and out rig is 53’ long. The campground sites are back-ins but all are easy to do. They are large and paved. The CG is secluded and very private. Day tours can be arranged at the company store with pick-up and return right there.

Here are some pictures of the CG and a couple we took at a welcome center on the way in. You can click on any of the pictures to start slide show.
